Korea Trip 2012: Part 3 Jejudo

Part 3 of Korea Trip! Read Part 1 and Part 2.

The next day we head over to Jejudo (Jeju Island) and stayed at YEHA Guesthouse. They provide online reservation for Guesthouse and Day Tours. If you guys are interested, I will be including their website and directions below. All their staff speaks English so do not worry about any language barrier. YEHA Guesthouse is located 5 to 10 minutes from Jeju Airport.

At YEHA Guesthouse! A affordable and clean guesthouse perfect for backpackers! I highly recommend staying there if you are visiting Jeju Island.

Loads of pictures of previous guests and lovely messages written by them.

I also took a photo of cab fares to different destinations, hoping to benefit those who are traveling around Jeju Island through taxi.

At Jejudo, I went to Trick Art Museum where there are 3D art pieces showing optical illusion art. Exhibitions consist of seven themed sections: Parody Zone (showing famous paintings and sculptures), Animal Zone, Jurassic Zone, Aquarium Zone, Egypt Zone, Magic Zone, and Illusion Zone. All the pictures look like they are popping out of the walls but they are actually... 2 dimensional. *Facepalming at my explanation.

The website states that each work looks differently when seen from different angles or spots. Its magic magnifies when seen from camera lenses. There is also a make believe zoo outside the Museum.

Next up I went to Seongeup Folk Village which is a small village in Jejudo made up of 200+ villagers living in small huts with their distinct roof made out of dried straw. Each year, the government provides the folk village with a small amount of money for conservation purposes.

At Seongeup Folk Village, I was able to see how traditional Jeju villagers live as well as trying out some of their delicacies such as the barbeque pork of Black Pig and also Omija Tea, which is extremely famous in Jejudo. The pork and Omija Tea are extremely mouth watering and delicious, definitely a must try when visiting Jejudo.

Passed by a beautiful flower field.

Next destination was Hallasan National Park. Hallasan is located in the middle of Jeju Island and commonly considered to be one of the three main mountains of South Korea

Extremely chilly and the uncooperative wind was blowing us off tracks.

Took random pictures from our car, photo below is their traditional way of drying squids.

Villagers stack stones on top of other stones which is believed to give good luck. And yes I tried it too!

Afterwards we went to Gimnyeong Maze Park. Remember to take a map of the maze park before entering the maze as it will greatly benefit in case if you happened to get lost.

These cabbage-looking bouquets of flowers are all over Jejudo!

We went to Hallim Park which is almost 100 thousand square meters, has a variety of gardens that can be enjoyed in any season. Hallim Park consists of Palm Tree Road, Jeju Stone and Bonsai Garden, Water Garden, Subtropical Botanic Garden and much more.

The most famous tourist sites in Hallim Park are Hyeopjaegul and Ssangyonggul Caves known to be the only two-dimensional caves in the world (I have no idea what this means but the caves are beautiful). I tried taking pictures but it was too dark for anything to show up.

Jejudo is most famous for their tangerines!

There are also various birds and reptiles

Oopsie!
LOL! Please do not worry animal lovers out there, someone contacted the staff to rescue this helpless little creature and help arrived in less than 1 minute from this picture taken. I should have take a picture of the staff helping it up but it looked so helpless it was cracking me up. This little creature is not hurt in any way, it probably just tripped and fell.

These rock sculptures are carved out from Volcanic rock and is a iconic symbol in Jejudo. You can see similar sculptures everywhere in Jejudo.

 Tulips!

We also went to some Aquarium (which I have absolutely no recollection of what it was called) where there are dolphins and other sea creatures. The wind was mind blowing, I literally have to run into the building and then run into the car because the wind was so strong! Therefore I didn't have the chance to take a picture of the building.

Our Shabu-Shabu lunch!

There was also some 3D art at the Aquarium.

That is all for this part, the next part will be the last part and I think will be a short one so please look out for that. Thank you so much for reading! Please do not hesitate to email me or ask me in the comments section and I will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Links will be added once post is up!
